Activist Weekend 2008 will be a blast! Save the dates of January 11th, 12th, & 13th.
PLEASE NOTE: this is a date change! We had to change the date, after it was published in The Cumberland newsletter, due to a scheduling conflict at the retreat center.
Send in the registration form that will be in the Cumberland (or print the electronic version above.)
Friday, after you get checked in & registered, join the Hospitality Party in Oscar's Room. Finish off the night by socializing and seeing the latest flicks at the Activist Film Festival.
Saturday and Sunday are for those of us who want to get involved in the environmental issues we are facing in this great Commonwealth.
Saturday, besides saving the planet, other activites will include a 5K race, alternative transportation demonstration, and of course…cocktails! The evening will then hit high gear with more fun planned. The Activist Film Fest will be showing more great movies. We will have another big outdoor bonfire. We hope to have a visit from Sierra Club founder John Muir and a cave outing as well. Then we’ll all be worn out and ready for a good night’s sleep.
Sunday breakfast will be followed by the final sessions. During lunch you’ll get to talk to all your newfound friends about everything you learned and how much fun you had. Then it will be time to pack up and head out...unless you wanna stick around for the Chapter Excom meeting. This is a great opportunity to hang out and see just how the Cumberland Chapter executive decisions and planning are carried out.

I Love Mountains Rally
Capitol Rotunda
Frankfort, Kentucky
Sierra Club and Kentuckians for the Commonwealth have joined forces to stop Mountain Top Removal. Join us on Valentine's Day at the “I love mountains” rally, organized by KFTC. The rally is intended to generate support among legislators for House Bill 164, commonly known as the “Stream Saver” bill. This bill would keep the overfill from mining sites out of our streams and be a big step toward safeguarding the quality of the state’s water supply.
Action Steps:
1. Call your legislator right away to set an appointment to meet with them in person on February 14th.
2. Meet in the cafeteria at the State Capitol at 9:00 a.m. on Feb. 14th. We'll gather together and break into small groups to visit legislators.
3. Join the rally in the Capitol Rotunda at 11:30.
